RE: Cat or Cummins

International Harvester will make engines for Cat after 2010.
WRONG! Cat will be providing technical assistance to Navistar for their engines. There will be NO Cat branded on highway engines built beyond 2009.
I work for Cat, PM if you want more info.

RE: CAT out of motorhomes too?

There is no technical reason for not making the emissions regulations only economical. It simply does not makes sense with the market and alliances being formed.

RE: Cat announcement

CAT's press release is a little confusing. Does it mean that CAT will stop manufacturing their own On-Highway engines by 2010, in favor of a jointly developed Navistar/CAT branded diesel? :h
yes! and I think just in Navistar vechicles but I would have to check for sure.
What's interesting is that CAT's On-Highway engines appear to only account for slightly over 10% of their total engine business. The complete CAT press release is available
True but a source a headaches
There are several factors, emissions, a very cyclical market, and recent alliances and acquisition that limit markets.

RE: Fresh Water Tank

We always leave full as we tend to not camp at places with full hookups. I have experiemented with traveling full vs empty and have no differences with mileage or handling.

RE: Power Failure?!

Ah the Condor power problems...I owned one, bought it new and fought problems for the entire 4 years I had it. The power converters were known to be bad and the company ended up going bankrupt. I replaced it with one from Camping World. That helped but I never did find the power draw that would drain the batteries. The batteries would be dead after sitting for 2 weeks. I even took it back to the factory where they replaced several components. It was frustrating!

RE: Holman Motors,Ohio

We bought our Fleetwood from them in 2007. Flew in & drove back to Texas. Great people to work with. Their internet price saved me close to 10k less than other dealers.
I had a similar experience in 2006! They were great to deal with. Too bad they are no longer a Fleetwood dealer.

RE: Cummins vs Caterpillar

Both makers have had some problems with current emissions standards and will continue to have problems.
This a complete false statement when it comes to Cat. There have been no issues in meeting any EPA regs so far and we don't have any concerns in the future regs at this point. Please state your source for this info. I am stitting at my desk at the Morton facility and I can point you to a real source if needed.

RE: Cummins vs Caterpillar

Not sure what facts you were given to justify this but there are several factors. Are you talking PM or major overhaul? What models? Current or discontinued? I think there are too many variables to give an accurate answer but I do know that PM items such as filters are comparable.

RE: Three times as much

My motor home gets 7 mpg (pulling my car).
That may not be real good mpg for a car but it's pretty good for a house.
Haha!!
Trop-a-cal needs to add the average house MPG to his comparison. :B

Jerry,
Sounds like you have found the difference maker! Keep us posted on how it performs for you!
Agreed, I would be interested in the MPG gain and EGT difference.
